Travis Wheeler

Travis Wheeler is a Teaching Assistant Professor in the Department of Math at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK), within the College of Arts and Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky in May 2024. With 8 years of teaching experience, he has served as a Recitation Leader and Instructor of Record for courses like College Algebra, Calculus I, Math for Elementary Teachers, and Business Calculus.

Research Focus: Travis’s research centers on representation theory in higher categories, particularly employing bicategorical traces to develop character theories for 2-representations. This work extends matrix trace concepts to bicategorical frameworks.

Teaching and Engagement: Beyond research, he actively contributes to mathematics education through diverse instructional roles. In his personal time, he enjoys pool, hiking, and fishing during summer months.
