Travis Taylor is a Professor of Economics and Honors Program Faculty in the College of Social Sciences at Christopher Newport University. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Connecticut, an MA in Economics from the same institution, and a BA in Economics and International Studies from the University of Richmond. His research focuses on international contracting, industrial policy, and the economics of higher education, with notable contributions to offset contracts and public procurement policy.
Dr. Taylor’s expertise spans conflict & defense economics, economic development strategy, and applied microeconomics. He has authored over 20 peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals such as Journal of Policy Modeling and Journal of Economic Integration, and his work has been featured in BBC Business, Financial Times, and Transparency International. His recent presentations include discussions on U.S. industrial policy at the SEPIP Conference in Northern Cyprus and the impact of NCAA division reclassification on college athletics at the International Conference on Sport and Society in Spain.
Dr. Taylor previously served as Chair of CNU’s Accounting, Economics & Finance Department (2008–2011) and contributed to establishing the university’s independent Economics degree program. His consulting work spans governments and firms in Singapore, South Korea, and Virginia. His research often bridges theoretical frameworks with real-world applications, emphasizing policy design for economic development.
