Travis D. Fridgen

Travis D. Fridgen is a Professor and Associate Dean of Science at Memorial University of Newfoundland, specializing in physical chemistry. His research focuses on the structures, energetics, and reactions of gas-phase ions using techniques including infrared multiple photon dissociation (IRMPD) spectroscopy and blackbody infrared radiative dissociation (BIRD).

Current projects investigate metal-ion coordinated biological molecules such as amino acids, peptides, and nucleobases. His group combines experimental and computational approaches to study ion solvation, unimolecular fragmentation, and self-assembly in multimetallic complexes.

Professor Fridgen has published extensively on gas-phase ion chemistry and founded the annual Trent Conference on Mass Spectrometry. He currently supervises multiple graduate students researching topics from DNA base complexes to pesticide fragmentation pathways.
