Tracy Romano is a Professor in Residence and Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of Connecticut, with a joint role at Mystic Aquarium. She specializes in marine mammal neuroimmunology and the impacts of environmental stressors on aquatic health. Dr. Romano holds a BS in Biology from Saint Michael’s College and a PhD in Neurobiology & Anatomy from the University of Rochester School of Medicine.
Her career includes leadership roles such as Vice President of Biological Research and Chief Scientist at Mystic Aquarium, overseeing research, animal care, and conservation programs. She has led over 15 Arctic expeditions and developed a nationally recognized science education program for Native American youth. Dr. Romano’s honors include induction into Saint Michael’s College Hall of Fame and ASEE/NRC Fellowships. She actively contributes to scientific advisory panels and previously served as President of the International Association for Aquatic Animal Medicine.
Her research focuses on marine mammal immune systems, stress responses, and climate change indicators. Collaborations span academic and institutional partnerships, emphasizing conservation and public engagement.
