Tracey Collett is an Associate Professor at the Peninsula Medical School within the Faculty of Health at the University of Plymouth. She leads the Sociology of Health and Illness curriculum and oversees evaluation and scholarship initiatives in the faculty’s D.E.S. group. Her research focuses on health inequalities, chronic illness experiences, and health professions education, with a particular emphasis on qualitative methodologies. Collett is actively involved in curriculum development, including roles in the Cross Cutting Themes Group and Public and Patient Involvement curriculum working group. She supervises postgraduate students at master’s and PhD levels and teaches a variety of topics including medical sociology, health disparities, and social research methods. Her work addresses the integration of sociology into medical training and the challenges of interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare education.
Her teaching spans lectures on health inequities, gender, LGBTQI+ health, and the patient-doctor relationship, complemented by small-group facilitation in problem-based learning. Collett co-leads the ‘Medicine in Society’ Special Studies Unit and has held visiting lecturer roles at Cardiff University. She advocates for decolonizing curricula and fostering inclusivity through her involvement in equality and diversity initiatives. Her publications reflect a commitment to enhancing medical education through reflective practice, threshold concepts, and addressing gaps in interdisciplinary teamwork.
