About
Prof. Dr. Torsten Wilholt is a philosopher of science at the Institute of Philosophy, Leibniz University Hannover, where he joined the faculty in 2011. As Co-director of the SOCRATES project, he investigates the epistemological challenges of scientific credibility – particularly the tension between being trusted and being trustworthy in science communication and societal contexts.
His research focuses on:
- Conditions of contemporary scientific knowledge generation
- Epistemological foundations of scientific authority
- Philosophy of scientific expertise under societal dependence
- Reconciling social legitimacy with epistemic integrity
