Torsten Risør

Torsten Risør is an Associate Professor at the Department of Public Health, Section of General Practice within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. He concurrently serves as Associate Professor at the University of Tromsø – The Arctic University of Norway since 2010 and Senior Researcher at The Research Unit for General Practice since 2021. His work addresses systemic gaps between population healthcare needs and current public health system capacities through innovative futures-oriented research.

His research centers on medical anthropology, medical education, general practice, leadership, and arctic health, utilizing the Prognosis framework which posits that future components exist in present practices. By analyzing healthcare education, clinical decision-making, and community innovation as historical trajectories, he develops scenarios for preferable healthcare futures. This approach shifts focus from static entity descriptions to movement, relations, and connectivity, requiring methodological evolution alongside thematic change. He maintains active international collaborations with professionals and students across Norway, Denmark, Canada, and Colombia.

Recent publications (2024-2025) reveal three dominant research streams: medical education innovations (digital physical examination teaching, embodiment in professional development), emergency department dynamics (pharmacist integration impacts on nursing/physician workflows), and data utilization in general practice (clinical evaluation clusters). These studies predominantly employ qualitative, scoping review, and time-motion methodologies, highlighting context-sensitive solutions for complex healthcare challenges like aging populations, migration patterns, and climate change impacts.

Risør's collaborative network spans multiple countries and disciplines, focusing on healthcare system adaptability. His work responds to widening gaps between population needs and healthcare capacities through strategic future-oriented research, emphasizing relational dynamics and contextual innovation rather than static problem-solving approaches.
