Torsten Lange is a Lecturer at the Institute of Architecture (IAR) within the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture at Hochschule Luzern (HSLU). His research focuses on the cultural history of built environments, architectural theory, and postmodern discourse, with emphases on socialist urban planning (especially the GDR), queer spatial practices, and care spaces. He has held academic positions at ETH Zurich, TU München, and the University of Brighton, and currently co-ordinates diversity initiatives at HSLU.
Education includes a PhD in Architectural History from UCL (2015), an MSc in Architectural History (2008), and a degree in Architecture from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (2004). His teaching spans modules on identity, ethics, materiality, and philosophy in architectural education at both bachelor's and master's levels.
Research interests bridge interdisicplinary topics like the history of environmental design in socialist contexts, gender/knowledge intersections in built spaces, and the role of architectural journals in shaping discourse. He has published extensively on postmodernity, care theory, and queer ecologies, with recent editorial work on archithese reader (2024) and Care (2023).
Lange's academic leadership includes roles as Guest Professor at TU München (2019–2021) and as teaching fellow at the University of Brighton (2008–2012). His collaborative projects often address marginalized spatial practices, blending historical analysis with contemporary social critique.
He is co-responsible for diversity initiatives at HSLU and actively involved in the HUB Architektur research hub. His work challenges conventional narratives through feminist and queer frameworks, emphasizing spatial justice and inclusive design.
