Tor Dybo is a Professor of Musicology at the Department of Rhythmic Music, University of Agder, Norway. He has held Adjunct Professor positions at Nord University and Østfold University College, focusing on ethnomusicology, jazz, and popular music research. With a Dr.art. in Musicology from NTNU, he has supervised 12 PhD candidates (9 graduated) and 30 Master’s students at UiA. His research bridges Jazz Research, Popular Music Studies, Gender and Media, and Musicological Theory.
His publications span 5 monographs, 12 book chapters, and 24 journal articles, with recent work analyzing authenticity in popular music, ethnographic methods, and digital music platforms. He has served on editorial boards for Puls and Norwegian Journal of Musicology Online, and participated in international conferences on Fairport Convention, Jan Garbarek, and Nordic Jazz. A member of the Agder Academy of Science and Letters since 2006, he has led doctoral programs and conducted seminars on analytical theory, ethnomusicology, and music technology.
