Tony Morris

Tony Morris is Professor in Geophysics and Geodynamics at the University of Plymouth's School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. As Lead Director of the International Ocean Drilling Programme Science Office and Chair of UK-IODP, he focuses on plate tectonic processes, oceanic crust formation, and volcanic systems using field studies and ocean drilling data.

His research applies geophysical methods to examine plate tectonic and geodynamic processes, with specialization in ophiolite formations and crustal accretion. Fieldwork concentrates on Mediterranean orogenic belts, complemented by extensive engagement with the International Ocean Discovery Program that collects oceanic rock and sediment samples.

Recent publications analyze volcanic impacts on marine sedimentation, magma transport mechanisms, and volcano-tectonic interactions. Research themes include marine geology, paleomagnetism, and interdisciplinary studies bridging volcanology, sedimentology, and microbiology.
