Tony Manconi

Tony Manconi is a School Fellow at Carleton University’s School of Public Policy and Administration. He transitioned to academia after a 34-year federal government career, including 21 years in executive roles. Previously, he served as Director General of the Charities Directorate at the Canada Revenue Agency, overseeing Canada’s charitable sector regulation. His work emphasized collaboration with charities, compliance advocacy, and reducing regulatory barriers.

Education: Graduated from Carleton University with a Combined Major in Law and Economics. Career trajectory: Joined public service in 1988 at Secretary of State (now Heritage Canada), later roles at Employment and Social Development Canada (1996), Canada Revenue Agency (2005–2016), and Charities Directorate leadership from 2016.

Research interests focus on government machinery, regulatory frameworks, and the intersection of public policy with nonprofit sectors. He engages actively with academia through conferences and seminars, particularly at Carleton University.
