About
Professor Tony Killard is affiliated with the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), where he holds the Chair in Biomedical Sciences within the Department of HAS - Applied Sciences. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute (BDI), Dublin City University (DCU) since 2011.
Education:
- BA (Mod) in Natural Sciences (Microbiology) from Trinity College, Dublin (1993)
- PhD in Biotechnology from Dublin City University (1998)
Research Interests: Tony Killard specializes in the development of chemical sensors, biosensors, and biomedical diagnostic devices. His work focuses on applying novel electroactive materials like nanostructured conducting polymers and electrocatalysts to electrochemical sensors, while optimizing them for low-cost mass production via screen printing, inkjet printing, and polymer MEMS fabrication. He integrates these sensors into functional diagnostic systems, notably advancing point-of-care diagnostics using breath monitoring and printed electronics technology.
Scientific Awards:
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC)
Editorial Roles: He is an Associate Editor of Analytical Methods and a member of the Editorial Board of Electroanalysis.
