Prof. Toni Haastrup holds the Chair in Global Politics at the University of Manchester since 2023. She earned a PhD in Politics from the University of Edinburgh (2011), an MA in International Relations from the University of Cape Town (2006), and a BA in International Relations and Political Science from the University of California, Davis (2004). A Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), her research interrogates power hierarchies in global politics, with a focus on feminist, postcolonial, and decolonial approaches to international relations, Africa-EU relations, and the Women, Peace, and Security agenda.
Her awards include the 2022 Emma Goldman Award from the FLAX Foundation and the 2023 Emma Goldman Fellowship from the Vienna Institute for Human Sciences. She chairs the University Association of Contemporary European Studies (UACES) and served as Secretary of the British International Studies Association until June 2024.
Prof. Haastrup advises governments and international organizations on the Women, Peace and Security agenda and Feminist Foreign Policy. She has held visiting roles at institutions like the Institute for Human Sciences (Vienna) and contributed to journals like Security Dialogue and JCMS: Journal of Common Market Studies.
