Dr. Tong Qiu is an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Penn State University's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering within the College of Engineering. He joined Penn State in 2010 after serving as an Assistant Professor at Clarkson University (2007-2010) and working as a Project Engineer at Ninyo & Moore (2005-2010). He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Civil Engineering from UCLA (2005 and 2002, respectively) and a B.S. in Hydraulic Engineering from Tsinghua University (2000).
His research focuses on soil dynamics, geotechnical earthquake engineering, numerical analysis, porous media flow, fluid-solid interaction, and unsaturated soil mechanics. He teaches CE 336: Materials Science for Civil Engineering at Penn State.
Awarded the Teaching Excellence Award (Clarkson, 2009) and a Best Paper Award (ASCE, 2008), he is a licensed Professional Engineer (Ohio) and active in organizations like ASCE, EERI, ASTM, and ASEE.
