Tomás Dodds is an Assistant Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. He holds affiliations with the AI, Media & Democracy Lab (Netherlands) and the Artificial Intelligence and Society Hub (IA+SIC, Chile). His research focuses on AI and automation in media, immersive technologies, civic data science, and governance of technology and the Internet.
Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor at Leiden University (2022–2025), a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Amsterdam (2021–2022), and a Lecturer in New Media at the same institution (2020–2021). As a journalist, he worked for the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Chile, and EFE News Agency, covering political and economic news across Spanish, Portuguese, and English outlets.
He currently accepts self-funded doctoral students at Leiden University, focusing on Media and Technology, AI in Journalism, and Platform Studies. His lab affiliations emphasize interdisciplinary research at the intersection of AI, media, and societal impact.
