Tomasz Sobisz

Tomasz Sobisz is a Professor and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Sculpture and Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, Poland. Born in 1973 in Lębork, he graduated from the Academy in 1998 and earned a habilitation degree. His sculptural work explores themes of patrimonial nostalgia, post-industrial sentimentality, and humanism, reflecting on time, material culture, and human experiences.

He has been honored with prestigious awards, including the PRO PATRIA Medal (2012), Ormuzdowa Skra (2014), and Senate Medal of Poland. His exhibitions include 'MEMORANDUM' (2012) at Gdańsk City Gallery and 'BATTLEFIELD' (2015) at Sopot State Art Gallery, alongside shows at the Center of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko (2011).

Sobisz’s artistic practice combines critical reflection on cultural heritage with contemporary socio-industrial themes, emphasizing materiality and human narratives.
