Wrocław University of Science and TechnologyAbout
Tomasz Olszewski is an Associate Professor and Deputy Head of the Department of Physical and Quantum Chemistry at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology. He holds a Ph.D. (2006) and habilitation (2016) in organic chemistry from the same institution. His research focuses on organic chemistry, particularly the synthesis of organophosphorus compounds with biological activity and novel catalysts for sustainable processes, including olefin metathesis and bio-based catalysis derived from phytoremediated biomass.
Education: M.Sc. (2002), Ph.D. (2006), D.Sc. (habilitation, 2016), all in organic chemistry from Wroclaw University of Science and Technology. Professional experience includes roles as Research Assistant (2012–2013), Assistant Professor (2013–2019), and current Associate Professor (2019–present). He has held visiting professorships at Cardiff University (2018) and CNRS Montpellier (2019), among others.
Research interests emphasize green chemistry, ecocatalysis, and the application of phosphorus-containing compounds in catalysis and medicinal chemistry. Notable awards include Rector’s Awards for scientific excellence (2015, 2016) and the Iuventus Plus grant (2012–2015). He contributes to academic leadership as an editorial board member of Organics (MDPI) and board member of the Wrocław Branch of the Polish Chemical Society.
His publications highlight advancements in sustainable catalytic methods, phosphorus chemistry, and applications of Raman spectroscopy. Recent work explores eco-friendly catalysts, phytoremediation-derived materials, and asymmetric synthesis of bioactive phosphorus compounds.
