About
Tom Wu is a Professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney), appointed through the Strategic Hires and Retention Pathways (SHARP) scheme in 2017. He earned his B.S. from Zhejiang University (1995) and Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park (2002). Prior to UNSW, he held positions at Argonne National Laboratory, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), and KAUST (Saudi Arabia).
His research focuses on the synthesis and application of novel materials, including transition-metal oxides and hybrid perovskites, targeting optoelectronic devices, energy systems, and memory technologies. Over 20 PhD students and 30 postdocs have graduated under his mentorship, now leading roles globally.
Tom’s work has yielded ~350 peer-reviewed papers (h-index 82), recognition as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (since 2019), and Fellowship in the Royal Society of Chemistry. He serves as Associate Editor for ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces and actively recruits PhD students/postdocs for projects on perovskite optoelectronics.
His group’s innovations include vapor/solution-based material synthesis, interface engineering, and nanocomposite design, addressing challenges in resource and technology sustainability. Research highlights include advancements in perovskite solar cells, memristors, and neuromorphic computing devices.
