Tom Thorne

Dr. Tom Thorne is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Lead of the MSc Data Science at the University of Surrey's School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering. He holds an MA from King's College Cambridge, an MSc and PhD in Bioinformatics from Imperial College London, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

His research focuses on statistical methods in Systems Biology and Bioinformatics, including biological network inference, Bayesian statistics, and GPU-accelerated statistical techniques. Recent projects involve analyzing single-cell transcriptomic data and developing tools for differential network comparison across datasets.

Teaching responsibilities include leading the COMM054 module on Data Science Principles and Practices for the MSc program. He is affiliated with the Centre for Mathematical and Computational Biology and the Computer Science Research Centre.
