Tom Sapsford is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Classical Studies at Boston College, Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on performance, gender, and sexuality in ancient Greek and Roman contexts, with specialization in imperial Latin verse. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California.
Current projects include a book on 'Classics and the Gay Counterculture' examining cultural uses from the 1950s onward. He has held fellowships at institutions including Harvard's Center for Hellenic Studies (2023–24) and NYU's Center for Ballet and the Arts (2019). His work bridges classical antiquity with modern LGBTQ+ studies, particularly through analysis of figures like the kinaidos/cinaedus.
Key awards include the 2023 Lambda Classical Caucus Paul Rehak Award for his book Performing the Kinaidos. Teaching includes courses on classical civilization, Latin literature, and the intersection of antiquity with modern identity studies.
