Tom Pering

Dr. Tom Pering is a Senior Lecturer in Volcanology at the University of Sheffield's School of Geography and Planning. He joined the institution as a Teaching Associate in 2016 and completed his PhD at Sheffield in 2015 with a thesis titled 'Bubbles in Basalts: Measuring and Modelling Basaltic Degassing.'

Recent publications highlight trends in volcanic degassing mechanisms (passive, Strombolian, lava fountaining) and low-cost environmental sensing. Collaborations span institutions in the UK, Italy, and Guatemala, with fieldwork at volcanoes like Yasur (Vanuatu), Masaya (Nicaragua), and Bagana (Papua New Guinea).
