Dr Tom Mills is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Policy at Aston University. His research focuses on elites, corporate power, media analysis, and digital methods. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Bath (2008–2015) and has held additional roles including Senior Research Fellow at De Montfort University's Media Discourse Centre and Chair of the Media Reform Coalition.
His research interests span elites and inequality, corporate power dynamics, media communications, and counter-terrorism policies. Key works include The BBC: Myth of a Public Service and co-authored studies on UK political donations and corporate influence. He teaches courses on digital methods, elites, racisms, and public policy.
Recent research highlights include analysis of elite networks in charity boards, policy planning capacities of corporate communities, and the distributional impacts of pandemic-era business support policies.
