Tom Mapes

Tom Mapes is a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader at Nottingham Trent University's Nottingham School of Art & Design, overseeing the FdA and BA (Hons) Music Performance programmes. He manages curriculum design, delivery, and development, aligns courses with institutional strategy and industry trends, and emphasizes inclusive, creative education.

• Education: Currently pursuing an MA in Music Industry Enterprise (in progress) at Nottingham Trent University.

His work integrates practice-based research in music performance, production, and education, focusing on inclusive teaching methodologies, collaborative creativity, and the evolving dynamics of the music industry. He also investigates authenticity and integrity in creative practice, informed by his ongoing MA studies.

Externally, Tom maintains an active career as a musician, sound engineer, and producer. He has collaborated with artists like JR Harbidge, Melanie Pegge, birchbones, Simon Klein, Eleanor Kate, Drive Through Hazy, Cam Mannix, and Fakers. His production credits span over a decade, bridging professional practice with academic inquiry.

He engages with artists, educators, youth services, and community arts organizations across the UK and Canada, partnering with independent studios and community initiatives. These collaborations reinforce his commitment to inclusion, creativity, and community engagement.

Tom teaches on the BA (Hons) Music Performance (Undergraduate) and FdA Music Performance (Foundation degree) programs, both full-time courses focused on music performance education.
