Dr. Tom L Ingram is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at The University of Texas at Arlington, affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts. He holds a PhD in Marketing from the University of North Texas and has extensive teaching experience in advertising, media, and advocacy courses since 1984. His research focuses on media policy, direct-to-consumer advertising, crisis communication, and pharmaceutical marketing messaging.
Dr. Ingram has served in numerous leadership roles, including Associate Chair of the Department of Communication, Chair of the University Faculty Senate (2010–2013), and member of the UT System Chancellor’s Task Forces on Student Success and Hazing. He is actively involved in professional organizations like the American Advertising Federation and Broadcast Educators Association.
His research explores the intersection of mass media and public policy, particularly in healthcare advertising and crisis communication. Recent work includes studies on HPV pharmaceutical messaging and comparative analyses of U.S. and EU DTC advertising policies. Over 40 years of academic service, he has advised students, led curriculum development, and contributed to institutional governance.
