Delft University of TechnologyAbout
Tom J. Savenije is an Associate Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at Delft University of Technology's Faculty of Applied Sciences. He leads the Savenije Research Group focused on optoelectronic materials research.
His research interests include:
- Photovoltaic Materials
- Charge Carrier Dynamics
- Photo-induced Microwave Conductivity (TRMC)
- Organic and Inorganic Semiconductors
- Metal Halide Perovskites
Prof. Savenije's group investigates how chemical structure and morphology of novel semiconductors affect charge carrier dynamics, with applications in solar cells, LEDs, and photoelectrochemical cells. They employ advanced time-resolved techniques including TRMC to monitor charge generation, movement, and decay.
His research group has access to comprehensive infrastructure including:
- Synthetic facilities: Gloveboxes with spin-coaters, AJA Physical vapor deposition
- Structural characterization: XRD, XPS, TEM, SEM, AFM, Step profilometer
- Electronic characterization: UV/Vis/NIR spectrometers, photoluminescence setups, TRMC, transient absorption spectroscopy
Prof. Savenije supervises several PhD students working on perovskite solar cells and related optoelectronic materials.
