Tom Barrett

Tom Barrett serves as Technical Director and instructor in the Department of Theater and Dance at Macalester College, a position he has held since 1990. He also works as a guest scenic and lighting designer throughout the Twin Cities theater community.

Barrett's professional focus centers on practical theater production disciplines. His expertise spans scenic design for creating physical stage environments, lighting design for mood and narrative enhancement, and technical direction for structural execution of productions. These interconnected fields form the core of his contribution to theatrical arts education and performance.

Within Macalester's Theater and Dance department, Barrett leads technical production operations from Theater 108 and T103C facilities. His dual role bridges academic instruction with professional practice, mentoring students in hands-on production work while maintaining active involvement in regional theater productions across Minneapolis-St. Paul.
