Toivo Maimets is a Professor of Cell Biology at the University of Tartu (Estonia) since 1992. He has held significant leadership roles including Director of the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (2008–Present), Director of the National Centre of Excellence for Gene and Environmental Technologies (2001–2007), and Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Geography (1993–1995). His international experience includes a Visiting Professorship at the University of Newcastle (United Kingdom, 2006–2007) and post-doctoral/research work at the Marie Curie Cancer Research Institute (UK, 1985–1989).
