Dr. Todd Shepard is Arthur O. Lovejoy Professor of History at Johns Hopkins University. A historian of modern France and decolonization, he received the American Historical Association's J. Russell Major Prize for his book The Invention of Decolonization.
His scholarship examines imperial legacies in postcolonial France, focusing on Algeria's independence and its impact on French politics, gender norms, and national identity. Recent work analyzes intersections of sexual politics and postcolonial racism.
