Todd Sandrin

Todd Sandrin serves as Vice Provost and Dean of ASU’s New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at the West campus. He holds the rank of Professor in the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences. His academic leadership has driven enrollment growth and student success initiatives, including a $5M NSF-funded project to enhance STEM transfer pathways. Sandrin earned a Ph.D. in Environmental Science (University of Arizona), M.S. in Plant Pathology (University of Arkansas), and B.S. in Biology (Missouri Southern State University).

His research focuses on microbiology and environmental science, leveraging mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) for microbial profiling, bioremediation of toxic pollutants, and strain-level bacterial characterization. He pioneered the NCUIRE undergraduate research program and developed rapid diagnostic tools for antibiotic resistance and waterborne pathogens. Sandrin has secured grants totaling millions and collaborates widely with institutions like Mayo Clinic and NSF-funded partnerships.

Teaching spans introductory courses (ASU 101, STEM Success) to advanced microbiology. His lab’s work includes IBS biomarker discovery, microbial fingerprinting, and proteomic innovations. Over 150 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters reflect his interdisciplinary impact.
