Scholarship focuses on democratic education, critical pedagogy, and resisting standardization in teacher education. Recent publications analyze educational disruptions during pandemic conditions and historical perspectives on choice in education systems.

Serves as President of the American Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies and state representative for the American Association of University Professors.
