About
Dr. Todd Murray is a Professor in the Mechanical Engineering department at the University of Colorado Boulder, serving as Associate Chair and director of the Imaging Science IRT. His research focuses on non-invasive material characterization using laser-based ultrasonic techniques, including nanoscale material property measurement and subsurface defect detection in microelectronic components. He also explores multimodal imaging combining ultrasound and light for biomedical applications, such as early tumor detection. Key interests include elastic wave propagation, nanoparticle-based sensors, and laser-actuated nanodevices.
He has received the IPPA Junior Research Award (2009) and leads research on advanced imaging technologies. His work bridges engineering and biomedical fields, with applications in semiconductor quality control and medical diagnostics. The Murray Lab is located in ECME 245, and his office is in ECME 271.
Notable contributions include developing techniques like pressure-contrast acousto-optic imaging and leveraging zero-group-velocity Lamb modes for material analysis. Current projects emphasize super-resolution photoacoustic imaging and nanoparticle-mediated therapies.
