About
Todd Gaines is an Associate Professor in Agricultural Biology at Colorado State University. His Molecular Weed Science Lab develops sustainable weed management through genomics and resistance mechanism studies. Research integrates molecular genetics, evolutionary biology, and bioinformatics to address herbicide resistance in weeds.
Awards include Early Career Scientist prizes from WSSA/WSWS (2019) and Highly Cited Researcher status (2019). Current projects focus on metabolic resistance mechanisms, genome assembly of invasive weeds, and herbicide resistance evolution in polyploid species.
He teaches Herbicide Action (AB509) and Pesticide Resistance Evolution (AB529), and advises Professional MS students. Research supports reduced herbicide reliance through molecular diagnostics and resistance management strategies.
