Toby Chai is a Lecturer of Design and Associate Director for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Northeastern University London (College of Social Sciences). He joined the institution in 2023, teaching Architecture and Experience and Interaction Design. His practice integrates architectural training with social justice advocacy, collaborating with grassroots organizations on human rights, immigration, disability, and welfare issues.
Education: PgCert in Academic Practice (University of the Arts London, 2023); RIBA/ARB Part 2 (Architectural Association School of Architecture, 2019).
Research focuses on spatial justice and civic participation, evidenced through projects like Defiant and Life Affirming (2023) and collaborations with Forensic Architecture. Runs Chromatic Agency with Landscape Architect Sandy Rompotiyoke.
