About
Tobin Peever is an Associate Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology at Washington State University (WSU), part of the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS). He holds a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from Cornell University (1994), an M.Sc. from the University of Toronto (1987), and a B.Sc. from the University of Guelph (1985). His research focuses on fungal pathogens affecting small fruit crops in the Pacific Northwest, including Botrytis cinerea, Monilinia vaccinii-corymbosi, and Ascochyta spp. He explores topics such as fungicide resistance, host specificity, and fungal speciation.
Peever collaborates extensively with WSU, USDA, and global scientists, addressing challenges like mummyberry disease in blueberries and toxin biosynthesis in Ascochyta. He has received awards including the WSU Faculty Advisor Excellence Award (2011) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Fellowship (2000). He teaches courses like Advanced Fungal Biology (PLP526) and General Plant Pathology (PLP429).
His work also involves the molecular epidemiology of eucalypt rust (Puccinia psidii) and the systematics of morels (Morchella). His research integrates genomics, population genetics, and field studies to improve disease management strategies. Recent projects include developing decision support systems for mummyberry control and analyzing fungal toxin pathways.
Peever has served as Editor for Plant Pathology (2012–2017), Senior Editor for Phytopathology (2009–2012), and Editor for European Journal of Plant Pathology (2007–2009). His contributions span over 60 peer-reviewed articles, with a focus on fungal biology, plant disease epidemiology, and applied mycology.
