Dr. Tjalling Valdés Olmos is an Assistant Professor of Global and Colonial Media Histories at the University of Amsterdam's Faculty of Humanities, Department of Media Studies. His research explores the intersection of media, settler colonialism, and affective resistance through decolonial and queer frameworks.

His work focuses on how media genres shape collective inheritances of colonial power structures, with attention to rural geographies, ambivalence, and transnational cultural networks. Publications include contributions to PhiloSOPHIA, Collateral Journal, and the edited volume Planetary Hinterlands (Palgrave 2023).
Current projects involve co-editing a volume on cultural imaginations of the rural (Brill 2025) and writing the monograph Affective Inheritances: Rurality, Genre, and Settler Colonial Legacies in Contemporary US Pop Culture. He contributes to the Terra Critica interdisciplinary network for critical humanities.
