Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB)About
Dr. Titas Dasgupta is an Associate Professor in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). He joined as Assistant Professor in July 2014 and was promoted to Associate Professor in December 2019. Prior to IIT Bombay, he served as a Marie-Curie Post Doctoral Fellow and Research Staff at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Cologne, Germany, from 2008 to 2014.
- BSc (Tech) in Ceramic Technology, College of Ceramic Technology, University of Calcutta (1996–2000)
- MSc (Engg) in Materials Science, Materials Research Center, IISc Bangalore (2000–2002)
- PhD in Materials Science, Materials Research Center, IISc Bangalore (2002–2007)
His research focuses on thermoelectric materials and devices, with a strong emphasis on developing new materials for energy conversion applications. His work spans thermoelectric metrology and instrumentation, including design of apparatus for high-temperature measurements, and understanding the physics of heavily doped semiconductors. He leads the Thermoelectric Materials and Devices Laboratory (TMDLab) at IIT Bombay.
The recent publications reveal a consistent focus on Mg₂Si-Sn and Zn-Cd-Sb based solid solutions, investigating strategies to reduce thermal conductivity, enhance power factor, and optimize ZT through defect engineering, alloying, and interface control. His early work on measurement techniques underscores his expertise in experimental metrology.
- Marie-Curie Post Doctoral Fellow
Dr. Dasgupta has advised multiple graduate students, many of whom appear as co-authors on his publications in high-impact journals such as ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Materials Today Energy, and Journal of Materials Chemistry A. While specific grant details are not listed, his Marie-Curie fellowship and ongoing research output suggest sustained funding support. His lab (TMDLab) is actively engaged in advancing thermoelectric science and technology.
The Thermoelectric Materials and Devices Laboratory (TMDLab) at IIT Bombay serves as the hub for his research group, fostering innovation in thermoelectric materials synthesis, characterization, and device prototyping.
