About
Dr. Tippu Sheriff is an Associate Professor and Director of Chemical Sciences Programmes at the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, Queen Mary University of London. His research focuses on two key areas: Chemical Education, emphasizing inclusive curriculum design and diversity in STEM, and Inorganic Chemistry, particularly the catalytic activation of dioxygen for green chemistry applications. He leads the 'Highlighting Minorities in Chemistry (HMiC)' initiative, co-creating resources to diversify chemistry curricula across UK universities. His inorganic work involves developing manganese-based systems for hydrogen peroxide generation in environmental and industrial contexts. He holds a MEGS grant (£108k) collaborating with Imperial College London and Greenwich University to advance inclusive education efforts. Dr. Sheriff supervises PhD students in catalytic chemistry and actively engages in public science outreach, including chemistry festivals for secondary school students.
His research outputs span over three decades, with notable contributions to catalytic oxidation pathways, corrosion inhibition, and hydrogen peroxide sensing technologies. He balances academic leadership with hands-on teaching in courses like States of Matter and Advanced Analytical Chemistry.
