Tiong Aw

Dr. Tiong Aw is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Tulane University. He holds a secondary appointment as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife under the College of Agriculture & Natural Resources at Tulane University. He is a public health microbiologist focused on coastal water quality and pathogen-environment interactions.

• BEng in Environmental Engineering, University of Technology Malaysia

His research addresses sources and persistence of microorganisms in coastal environments, informing management policies to protect human and ecosystem health. He also studies how environmental factors and climate change influence the distribution of waterborne pathogens, with expertise in rapid detection via molecular techniques, viral metagenomics, and virus transport in urban water systems. Prior to Tulane, he was a Research Associate at Michigan State University.
