Ting Xu is Professor of Law at the University of Essex, where she teaches Land Law, Comparative Law, and Legal Research Skills. With an LLB from Sun Yat-sen University and LLM/PhD from the London School of Economics, she leads research on comparative property systems and Chinese legal development.
Her work examines communal property rights, law and development, and Chinese political economy through socio-legal frameworks. Current projects investigate Harold Laski's influence on Chinese rights discourse and the evolution of communal land tenure systems globally.
Xu has directed multiple international projects funded by the British Academy, Leverhulme Trust, and European Commission. She founded the Communal Property Research Network spanning 13 countries and serves as visiting professor at institutions including King's College London and Jilin University.
