Professor Dame Tina Lavender is a leading academic in maternal and newborn health, affiliated with Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine as Professor and Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Childbirth, Women's and Newborn Health. She holds an honorary Chair at the University of Manchester and St Mary's Hospital, Manchester, and serves as a Visiting Professor at the University of Nairobi.
Her research focuses on improving maternal and newborn outcomes globally, particularly through innovative projects addressing stillbirth prevention and management. She directs an NIHR Global Health Research Grant and actively contributes to WHO initiatives in research prioritization, guideline development, and educational materials review.
Scientific awards and honors include:
- Nominated as one of BBC’s 100 Inspirational Women (2016)
- Senior NIHR Investigator (2018)
- Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Midwives
Dame Tina also holds editorial roles as Associate Editor of the African Journal of Midwifery and Women's Health and promotes midwifery education standards through academic and technical projects.
