Timothy Scala, Psy.D., is an Associate Professor and Program Director/Lead Faculty in the Department of Human Services at Nova Southeastern University's Abraham S. Fischler College of Education & School of Criminal Justice. He oversees the NSU FCE&SCJ Simulation Program and chairs the HS/SCJ Curriculum Committee. Dr. Scala holds a Psy.D. and M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University and a B.A. in Psychology from Florida State University. He is a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise in psychological assessment, child and adolescent therapy, and behavioral modification.
His research focuses on social-emotional learning, child development, developmental disabilities, and simulation-based education. Dr. Scala has secured grant funding for projects addressing veterans' holistic care, homeless populations, and school-based interventions. He actively presents nationally on trauma survivor support, veteran reintegration, and mental health stigma reduction.
Teaching spans undergraduate to doctoral levels, with courses in family dynamics, exceptionalities, and multicultural counseling. He supervises practicum students, interns, and postdoctoral residents. Dr. Scala’s professional roles include clinical practice, curriculum development, and leadership in academic committees.
His NSU FCE&SCJ Simulation Program uses Mursion Technology to train students in crisis intervention and ethical decision-making. He advocates for integrating social-emotional learning into educational frameworks and has developed programs like the B.S. in Recreational Therapy and Child Development.
