Timothy Fredsgaard-Jones is a DPhil Student and MRC Clinical Research Training Fellow at the University of Oxford's Nuffield Department of Medicine, affiliated with St Anne's College and Professor McShane's Tuberculosis Research Group. His work focuses on tuberculosis immunology and vaccine platform development.
He completed medical training at the University of Cambridge and University College London, complemented by a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (DTMH) and an MSc from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
His research spans tuberculosis immunology, vaccine development, and tropical medicine, with significant contributions to HIV, COVID-19, and enteral parasite studies in the UK and Malawi. Current projects characterize early immune responses to Mycobacterium tuberculosis and investigate respiratory microbiome impacts on TB disease progression.
Recent publications reveal a strong emphasis on clinical infectious disease research, including BCG challenge trials, SARS-CoV-2 human infection models, antimicrobial resistance in Africa, and clinical procedure safety—highlighting expertise in trial design and global health applications.

Supervised by Professor McShane, Dr Jethro Johnson, Professor Marc Lipman, and Dr David Lowe, he served as lead clinician for two BCG challenge studies. As an active contributor to Professor McShane's Tuberculosis Research Group, he integrates laboratory research with clinical teaching in Oxford's infectious disease ecosystem.
