Timothy Clark

Timothy Clark is a Research Fellow in Classics, Humanities, and Italian Studies at the University of New Hampshire. His research integrates material culture and literary sources to explore the construction of ethnic, political, and racial boundaries in the ancient world, particularly between Rome and eastern powers like Parthia, Armenia, and the Sasanians. He emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, focusing on visual evidence such as monumental art, coinage, and diplomatic ceremonies.

His current book project, Between Conquest and Kingship: Parthia, Armenia, and the Construction of Roman Imperial Power, reinterprets Roman imperial authority through visual discourses under Nero and Trajan. Timothy's teaching includes Greek and Roman history, Latin language courses, and analysis of modern political receptions of antiquity. He advocates for inclusivity in Classics, highlighting marginalized voices and cultural diversity in the ancient Mediterranean.

His research interests span Ancient History, Ethnicity and Race in Antiquity, and Greco-Roman Art. While his publications include studies on Nero’s eastern diplomacy, he is also developing articles on ideological movement in the Forum of Augustus and Seneca’s portrayal of eastern femininity. Timothy holds a Ph.D. in Classical Languages and Literatures from the University of Chicago.
