Timothy Balke is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Studies at the University of St. Thomas’s College of Arts and Sciences. With over 20 years of clinical experience, he specializes in individual and family therapy, operating a private practice for the past 12 years. His expertise spans working with children, adolescents, families, and adults, including couple therapy and men’s therapy groups. Dr. Balke earned his PhD, MA, and BS in Psychology from the University of Minnesota.
His research interests focus on therapeutic relationship dynamics, timing and approaches in addressing client challenges, and culturally respectful adolescent and family therapy. He teaches in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology (GSPP), emphasizing students’ self-awareness of biases and societal/cultural messages about gender roles. He integrates personal and professional experiences into teaching, stressing the sacredness of client narratives and equitable care.
