Timothy B. Weston

Timothy B. Weston serves as an Associate Professor of Modern China in the History Department within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado. His academic focus centers on the history of modern China, with particular expertise in Chinese-American relations, China-Japan historical intersections, and propaganda states.

Dr. Weston's research interests span the relationship between politics and culture in modern China, Asia's role in global context, media development and influence, and the nature of state power. His scholarly work examines how political power intersects with cultural production and media systems in shaping modern Chinese society.

His publications reveal a consistent focus on understanding China beyond simplified media narratives, with particular attention to historical contexts of contemporary issues. The 'China Beyond the Headlines' series demonstrates his commitment to bridging the gap between academic understanding and public perception of China.

As an active member of the academic community, Weston previously served as President of the Historical Society for Twentieth-Century China and participates in public discourse through media appearances and writings on contemporary China.
