About
Timothy Andrews is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of York. He serves as Director of the MSc Cognitive Neuroscience program and leads research on visual perception and neural processing. His work explores how the brain transforms light patterns into meaningful visual experiences, with a focus on face recognition and natural image representation.
Education: BSc Biology (University of London), PhD Neurobiology (Duke University). Postdoctoral training at University of Oxford and University of Durham.
Research interests include visual perception mechanisms, neural coding of sensory inputs, and cognitive neuroscience applications. His recent media coverage highlights studies on biased visual perception in sports fans, linking tribal instincts to brain activity patterns.
Teaching roles include undergraduate courses on Neuroimaging of Vision and postgraduate modules in cognitive neuroscience research methods. Active in editorial roles for Perception and Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology.
Labs/Teams: Associated with the York Neuroimaging Centre (YNiC). Collaborates with researchers like Mike Burton, Tom Hartley, and Dan Baker on vision-related projects.
