About
Timo Sajavaara is a Professor at the Department of Physics, University of Jyväskylä, affiliated with the Faculty of Mathematics and Science. He leads the Accelerator Laboratory (JYFL-ACCLAB) and co-directs the Nanoscience Center (NSC). He obtained his docent title in Experimental Materials Physics in 2006 at the same institution. His research employs accelerator-based methods to investigate material properties at atomic scales, with applications spanning fundamental science and industrial R&D.
His research focuses on:
- Ion beam modification of nanostructures
- Atomic layer deposition (ALD) for thin films
- Nanomaterial characterization techniques
- Energy-related materials including batteries and catalysts
- Radiation effects on embedded nanoparticles
He leads multiple EU/national projects including:
- RADIATE (EU, 2019-2023): Ion beam technology advancement
- Novel nanostructure morphologies (Research Council of Finland, 2017-2021)
- RECYCLABLE MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT (EU, 2022-2026)
- gH2ADDVA (Regional Council, 2024-2026): Green hydrogen technologies
He collaborates with the JYFL Accelerator Laboratory and Nanoscience Center, focusing on instrumentation development for materials research.
