Tim Maran is a Professor of Ecosemiotics and Environmental Humanities at the University of Tartu's Institute of Philosophy and Semiotics. He holds a Doctorate in Semiotics from the University of Tartu and has been a leading figure in ecosemiotics, zoosemiotics, and environmental humanities. His research integrates biosemiotic theory with cultural studies, focusing on semiotic relations between humans and nature, biological mimicry, and sustainability transitions. He has held administrative roles including Head of the Semiotics Department and membership in international academic societies like the International Society for Biosemiotic Studies.
