Tim Watts

Tim Watts is an Affiliated Lecturer at the Faculty of Music, University of Cambridge, and a Teaching Associate in Music at St John’s College, where he also serves as Sub-Director of Studies. He combines roles as a composer, pianist, and educator, with a focus on bridging music with interdisciplinary themes.

• Education: Composition studies with Jeffery Wilson (Junior Guildhall), Hugh Wood, and Robin Holloway (University of Cambridge); Master’s in piano accompaniment from Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

His research and creative work explores diverse inspirations—from historical events to scientific concepts—through orchestral, choral, and chamber compositions. Collaborations with institutions like Ely Cathedral, Bedford School, and the Royal College of Music highlight his commitment to music education and performance.

• Awards: Supported by The Countess of Munster Musical Trust for postgraduate studies.

Teaching and mentorship include composer-in-residence roles at Bedford School and Uppingham School, emphasizing composition for young musicians. He also teaches at the Royal College of Music.
