Tim Richards

Tim Richards is an Associate Teaching Professor and Director of the First-Year Legal Research and Writing Program at the University of Victoria’s Faculty of Law. He has been teaching since 2005, focusing on legal skills education and Administrative Law, particularly in addressing societal inequities through law. His expertise includes Social Welfare Law, Children and the Law, and legal advocacy for marginalized communities.

Education: BA (Carleton, 1984), LLB (UVic, 1988), BEd (UVic, 2005).

He coordinates the Amicus Student Support Program and has led equity initiatives as Chair of the Equity and Diversity Committee. Previously, he worked as a legal advocate with the Together Against Poverty Society (TAPS), representing individuals in poverty and advocating for income assistance rights.

Teaching responsibilities include courses such as Legal Process, Administrative Law, and Advanced Legal Research and Writing. He actively contributes to community legal initiatives through board roles at TAPS, The Law Centre, and the B.C. Association of Community Law Offices.
